Not A Good Day For Jay
The first week of the season isn’t even 100% over quite yet. However, the drama and craziness of the regular season has already taken it’s toll on a number of teams. Let’s recap, shall we?
Bear Down

Bad News Bears Fans
It’s one thing when your brand-new, franchise quarterback throws 4 INTs and looks nervous against your most hated rival. It’s another when you lose the captain of your defense. Brian Urlacher will, reportedly, miss the entire season after dislocating his wrist. It’s a bad week to be a Bears fan already…and it’s only Monday. The Bears are considering bringing in Derrick Brooks as a potential replacement. He has played with Lovie Smith before, and could be an asset. The D-Line got pressure on Aaron Rodgers, so at least that was promising.
Jake “The Mistake” Delhomme
Wow! It’s probably not a great time to be a Panthers fan either. Anyone who forgot Jake Delhomme’s performance in the 2008 Playoffs was quickly reminded of that stinker. Delhomme turned the ball over 5 times on Sunday and was benched. Adding insult to injury, Josh McCown sprained his knee and foot, leading to third string quarterback Matt Moore getting some time at quarterback. John Fox announced earlier today that Delhomme would be the starter next week, but you have to wonder how long that’s going to last. Many in the Panters organization actually see Moore as a potential quarterback of the future in Carolina. He’s an intriguing prospect at the position, but he’s only a prospect right now. Not to mention, he’s still third on the depth chart.
McNabb Fractures Rib
The Carolina/Philly game was not a good game to be a quarterback. Donovan McNabb fractured his rib on a touchdown run and did not return to the game. Kevin Kolb stepped in as his backup, and wasn’t asked to do much. While initial reports are that McNabb will miss week 2, Donovan has every intention of trying to play. If injuries or ineffectiveness hamper McNabb’s performance, is it possible that there will be rumbling for Michael Vick to start in week 3? It’s complete and utter speculation at this point, but it is an interesting situation to keep your eye on.
Kyle Orton Now Has 4 Game Winning Drives*

Just Win Baby!
This is one of the main reason’s why some statistics don’t always tell the whole story. To any fan looking at the stat sheet, Orton threw an 87 yard pass to Brandon Stokley to win the game, proving that Orton just “knows how to win game.” That, of course, wasn’t really the case. Regardless, Denver wins in week 1 and are now a 1/3 of the way to matching everyone’s win projection this season. Meanwhile, that guy he was traded for came up short during a game winning drive. Denver fans rejoice.
(*Asterisk included because, even though it goes down as a game winning drive, there is no way Orton should be credited with this statistic. It’s one thing to engineer a game winning drive down the field while converting crucial third downs and throwing clutch passes. Hell, it’s one thing to draw up a well orchestrated play where you hit a receiver deep while in stride. It’s another to throw a near interception and have your receiver end up in the right place at the right time. Then again, Kyle Orton knows how to win games, baby!)

Can the Saints be considered a sleeper this year? We know they’re good, but no one seems to be picking them out of the NFC South…
And now with Bell in the mix, they don’t even need to worry about the Bushslacker

The Saints probably are a nice pick out of the South. I have a hard time picking a team with a defense that bad, but Delhomme doesn’t look anything like an NFL quarterback right now.

They could have the second best defense in that division this year…
