NFL Round Up: Week 7

Adrian Peterson Didn't Even Play And He Felt Embarassed For The Bears Yesterday

The Bears get trounced, Peyton Manning stay perfect, and the Vernon Davis transformation is complete! That’s right friends, Week 7 is nearly complete. While the Raiders reverted to form, the Cowboys and Cardinals got back in the playoff races. Meanwhile, quarterback changes are the latest craze in the NFL. Who will survive and who will be holding the clipboard next weekend? Let’s review the biggest stories of Week 7.

Changes Imminent?

A Former First Round Pick Gets Another Chance

A Former First Round Pick Gets Another Chance

Six, count ‘em, six teams could be starting a different quarterback next week. While none of them really offer much at the moment, it’s pretty interesting to look at some of the situations out there. Although Adam Schefter is reporting that the Browns will stick with Derek Anderson, I’m including them in this area. When your quarterbacks throws 29 times and can’t even manage 100+ yards, you should probably consider a change. Then again, when your back up is Brady Quinn… Anyway, the Bills managed to beat the Panthers with Ryan Fitzpatrick starting at quarterback. With Trent Edwards already ruled out for next week, Fitzpatrick might be able to wrestle that job away. The Panthers, not to be outdone, may consider losing Jake Delhomme after another 3 INT performance. Delhomme’s stats on the season, 4 TDs to 13 INTs, yikes! If there was any other team to run the Wildcat, wouldn’t the Panthers be the next team? The Bucs proved that, even across the globe, they are still a bad team. Josh Johnson was pulled from the game after throwing 3 INTs, meaning that Josh Freeman could be the next first round quarterback to start this season. Elsewhere, everybody’s favorite Raider, JaMarcus Russell was benched for the immortal Bruce Gradkowski. Spoiler alert, this one won’t work out either. In perhaps the most intriguing benching, Alex Smith takes over for Shaun Hill and throws 3 TDs in a 49ers loss to the Texans. Do any of these guys have staying power? Well, outside of maybe the 49ers, none of the teams on that list have legitimate playoff aspirations. The beginning of Josh Freeman’s career could be exciting, but the Bucs are just terrible.

Benson Gets His Revenge

Wow! What a terrible, terrible, game for the Chicago Bears. The Bengals came out firing on all cylinders and destroyed the Bears. Former Bear, Cedric Benson rushed for a career high 189(!) yards, Chad Ochocinco burned the secondary for 2 TDs, and Carson Palmer threw 5 TDs in the rout. The Bears, meanwhile, cannot run at all, and look lost on defense without Brian Urlacher calling the audibles.  While the Bears defense looked decent the first few weeks, they appear to have resorted to playing more Cover 2, and teams are exploiting the zone coverage.  The Bengals, however, proved they are for real this season, as did the Texans, Cowboys, and Cardinals.

Larry Johnson Is Not Happy…Big Surprise!

Looks Like Someone's Upset Again

Looks Like Someone's Upset Again

The Kansas City Chiefs are awful this season. Everyone expected Larry Johnson to blow up at some point, but few expected it to happen this late into the season. Johnson reportedly called out Todd Haley on his Twitter page, saying that Haley had no football experience. At this point, it is unclear whether this will affect Johnson’s playing time. If Johnson were to miss time, Jamaal Charles would step in. Charles has been a promising player for a few seasons, but has never had an opportunity to succeed in the NFL. Charles offers far more upside than Johnson as well. Needless to say, things aren’t going well for Todd Haley and the Chiefs.

Awwww, LJ is just coping with the pain of being irrelevant for the first time in his football life.

I see a Corey Dillion-like signing by the Patriots on the horizon
