Keiland Williams was LSU's only solid player from Saturday's "game" vs. La. Tech
LSU hasn’t lost to Louisiana Tech in over a century and on Saturday, there were times were that streak was going to end. Lousiana Tech hasn’t beaten LSU since 1904 and they gave LSU all they could handle in Baton Rouge.
Who would have thought that not having Jordan Jefferson or Charles Scott would have made LSU struggle so much. The Tigers did fine replacing Scott with Keiland Williams, but Jarrett Lee reminded everyone why he is 2nd string. Williams rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries with two TDs. Lee went 7 for 22 for 105 yards and a TD. Ouch! While I have criticized Jefferson this year, he is way better than Lee and Jordan gives LSU a much better chance of winning.
La. Tech’s offense wasn’t completely shut down as they outgained LSU 321-246, but ran 83 plays compared to LSU’s 52. La. Tech pulled off a great play to end the first half, with a Tebow-esque, jump pass TD on 4th down to put La. Tech up 13-10 in Death Valley.
This game stunk except for Williams. LSU’s offense was even more inept than usual with Lee under center. He puts LSU at risk of losing to anyone, especially upcoming Ole Miss. Les Miles defended Lee when the fans booed, as he should have, but at the same point, LSU shouldn’t be in a close game with LA. TECH, and the fans have every reason to get upset at Lee. Why didn’t Miles put Sheppard at QB for this game, I’m really not sure.
I’m glad that game is over and I wouldn’t be shocked if the voters knocked down LSU a few positions in the polls. Somehow LSU is the highest ranked two-loss team at #9, but they aren’t close to that with Jefferson out.
Next week’s game is at Ole Miss. Ole Miss has been a disappointment this year, but I’m sure they would nothing more to beat the Tigers.
