Suspend AJ, Are You Kidding?

Again...really?

This has already been covered a number of times by Rob Neyer; and even the guys over at FanGraphs are talking about the issue, but AJ Pierzynski is causing a ruckus once again. Yahoo’s Andy Behrens already summed up the play in question nicely:

Romero skipped a pitch in the dirt to Pierzynski leading off the eighth inning — not a terrible pitch, mind you, because AJ had been hacking at similar offerings all night. But late in the game with his team trailing 4-0, Pierzynski resisted the urge to swing. When the ball hit the ground near his feet, he began hopping as if an anvil had landed on his toe. But in fact, nothing had landed on his toe. Replays were clear. He had not been hit.

Maybe I’m biased because I’m a White Sox fan, but I can’t see anyway you can punish or suspend Pierzynski for fooling the umpire.

Kenny Williams: Good GM?

Who else loves the off-season?

To open up the off-season, Kenny Williams made a move for a third baseman.  Mark Teahen was acquired from Kansas City for Chris Getz and Josh Fields.  Essentially, Williams moved a replacement level second baseman and a 28 year-old no glove, no bat clogger for a player from the Royals.  Unfortunately, that guy is Mark Teahen.

For years, I have said that Kenny Williams is an overrated general manager.  His last few moves have solidified my argument. Read the rest of this entry »
