Kurt Warner: Hall Of Famer?

After Such A Strange Career, Does Warner Deserve To Be In The Hall?

After Such A Strange Career, Does Warner Deserve To Be In The Hall?

There’s no doubt that Kurt Warner has had one of the most unique career paths of any player in the NFL. After going un-drafted, Warner played in the Arena League and NFL Europe before finally getting his chance to succeed in the NFL. While Warner had a tremendous start to his career, he quickly crashed down to earth just a few seasons later. In 2003, Warner was benched in favor of Marc Bulger. It appeared his time as an NFL starting quarterback was over. After years of rotating between a starter and a backup, Warner finally got another chance in 2007. With Matt Leinart struggling, Warner replaced the young quarterback and looked like the Warner of old. Since 2007, Warner has thrown 77 touchdowns*. With a strong finish to his career, is Kurt Warner a Hall Of Famer?

NFL Notes And Trends Week 5

Peyton Manning passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns as the Colts improved to 5-0 with a 31-9 win.

Peyton Manning passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns as the Colts improved to 5-0 with a 31-9 win.

-Peyton Manning is the 3rd QB since 1960 to throw for 300 yards or more in his team’s first five games in a season. The other two are Kurt Warner in 2000 and Steve Young in 1998. Both Warner and Young threw for 300+yards in their first six games that season. Peyton Manning has a bye next week, but the following week is the Rams, then the 49ers. Manning could set the record.

-The Redskins are 2-3 with wins over (0-5) St. Louis and (0-5) Tampa Bay and losses to (1-4) Detroit and (1-3) Carolina and (5-0) Giants. Since the Redskins played the Giants Week 1, the Redskins opponent each week has been winless. Next week the Redskins host the (0-5) Chiefs.

-Cowboys WR Miles Austin set the Cowboys record for most receiving yards (250) in a game against KC Sunday. Who is number two on that list? Recent HOF inductee Bob Hayes.

-Falcons WR Roddy White had 210 receiving yards and 2 TD. He set the Falcons record for most receiving yards in a game. As a corollary, White and Austin become the first two receivers since Drew Hill and Stephone Page to have at least 200 receiving yards and 2 TD’s in a game. Hill and Page did that on December 22nd 1985.

-Bengals RB Cedric Benson rushed for 120 yards on 27 carries and was the first RB since Larry Johnson (2004) to rush for over 100 yards against the Ravens defense. That snaps Baltimore’s 39 game streak without a 100 yard rusher, good for 8th best since 1960. The longest streak started with 1992 Eagles who held opponents RB’s to under 100 yards for 53 straight games.  Who broke that record? A guy you may have heard of, Emmitt Smith.  Also, Emmitt Smith ran for more than 100 yards (12 times) vs. the Eagles than anyone, since 1960.

The Forum: The Prodigal Son Returns

Does Favre Look Good In Purple?

Does Favre Look Good In Purple?

Just in case you haven’t heard about it anywhere, there is a somewhat significant Monday Night Football game tonight.  Yes, Brett Favre returns in all his glory to play his former team for the first time in his career. You won’t find anything else on ESPN today, it’s all about Favre. Hey, he hijacked your sports news for 2-3 off-seasons, what’s one more day? While Favre isn’t admitting that this is a shot at revenge, any intelligent fan knows that he’s lying through his teeth. Being that we are based mostly out of Milwaukee, it would be a disservice for FP2FP to gloss over such an important event. What better way to talk about the game than The Forum? Although we only asked for a paragraph, our resident Packers fan, Kevin Tracy, got a little excited and we ended up with two. So, with Brett Favre facing his former team for the first time in his career, what can we expect to see tonight?

NFL Season Preview: AFC East

Will Pennington Lead The Dolphins To Another Title?

Will Pennington Lead The Dolphins To Another Title?

The AFC East was anything but usual last season. One star quarterback came in, while one was lost after only 8 minutes of play. Another quarterback won the Comeback Player of the Year Award for the second time in his career. That’s right, the Patriots did not win the AFC East last season. They didn’t even make the playoffs in 2008. Chad Pennington and the Dolphins took full advantage of Tom Brady’s injury and went 11-5. The Pats, who also went 11-5, lost the tie-breaker to the Dolphins and finished in 2nd place. Even though Tom Brady went down early, Matt Cassel stepped in and played his way to a big contract with the Chiefs. Behind Brett Favre, the Jets looked strong early but went only 1-4 down the stretch. The Jets finished 9-7, but were only able to finish 3rd in the division. The Bills started strong as well, but couldn’t manage a win in their own division. Despite the struggle within the division, the Bills still managed to win 7 games. The Pats dynasty may have lost the battle last season, but the war is far from over. Can the Patriots reclaim the division title, or will Chad Pennington lead the Dolphins to glory again?

Favre Breaks Rule, NFL Finally Takes Notice

Brett Favre Is Involved, So Now The NFL And The Media Will Take Notice

Brett Favre Is Involved, So Now The NFL And The Media Will Take Notice

If you haven’t seen it already, then here it is. That’s everyone’s favorite quarterback nearly ending Eugene Wilson’s career. Cut blocks and crackbacks have been in the NFL for quite a while. The Denver Broncos were notorious for injuring players due to Cut Blocks. The NFL made cut blocks and crackbacks illegal in 2004. Under the rule change, crackbacks would fall under the unnecessary roughness rule and be charged with a 15 yard penalty. The way the media is talking about Favre’s now infamous block, you can expect the NFL to increase that penalty.

Favre Has Another Injury?

brettAccording to ProFootballTalk.com Brett Favre suspects he has a cracked rib. O boy, that’s two official excuses by my count, the rotator cuff and now the cracked rib, that Favre has in case he doesn’t play well this season. Favre went on to say he won’t wear any extra padding since “the damage is done”. The Vikings haven’t mentioned the injury previously.

Schefter Says T-Jax Still Has Supporters In MIN

NFL/

It is confirmed today that Tarvaris Jackson has more fans than just Kyle Parsons

ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports today:

Many Vikings are excited to have Brett Favre as their quarterback. But there also are players in the Vikings’ locker room that believe Tarvaris Jackson gives Minnesota the best chance to win…Jackson is popular among his teammates, and clearly has his supporters.

This really isn’t much of a surprise. Jackson has gone through the OTA’s, mini camps, training camps, and games with this team for the past four years. He’s shown commitment to the Vikings and has gained respect from some teammates, even enough to say he should start over Favre. It’s logical for people to show loyalty to someone who has put in the time and effort to an organization than to someone who has just arrived.

Brett Favre and all that is left to say…

Brett Favre starts his first preseason game as a Minnesota Viking.Watching Brett Favre walk out onto the field turf inside the Metrodome Friday night gave me a feeling I just will not ever be able to describe.  There simply are no words for it.   As a lifelong Packer fan I’m not going to lie and say that I didn’t care.  The thought of how wonderfully amazing it would be if his first pass as a Viking was an interception, did indeed circle in my head during the commercial break before the Viking’s offense took to the field for the first time. My dream of a Brett Favre interception didn’t come true, but it didn’t have to either.
