We All Worship At The Altar Of Gus Johnson
Week 5 is in the books and four teams stand at 5-0, while four other teams stand 0-5. So much for parity. The Mannings continued their dominance, while Donovan McNabb did not appear to be rusty in his comeback. Both the AFC North and the NFC West got a bit more intriguing as well. Here is your round up of the top stories in week 5, in case you missed it.
Players At A Crossroads: Cedric Benson

Benson Entered 2009 With His NFL Career On The Line
The contrast between the beginning and the end of Cedric Benson’s 2008 season is incredibly interesting. Leading into 2008, Benson was arrested for a BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) which may have caused the Chicago Bears to select Matt Forte in the second round of the NFL draft. Benson, never the most popular player in the Bears locker room, was now fighting for his starting position at running back. Unfortunately for Benson, he was arrested and charged with a DUI in a separate incident just a few weeks later. On June 9th, before the season even started, the Bears released Benson. On September 30th, Benson signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. After initially beginning on the bench, Benson played his way into the Bengals’ line up and was a pleasant surprise for Cincinnati. In the final three games of the season, all wins for the Bengals, Benson gained over 100 total yards in each game. After the Bengals failed to sign Derrick Ward in the off-season, Benson was re-signed as the starting running back for the Cincinnati Bengals. Entering a critical season, can Benson prove that he can succeed at the NFL level?
NFL Season Preview: AFC North

Can the Steelers Repeat?
The AFC North was a top-heavy division in 2008. Both Baltimore and Pittsburgh won double digit games, while Cincinnati and Cleveland both managed only 4 wins. Although only the 6th seed, the Ravens wrecked havoc in the playoffs, beating Miami and Tennesee before advancing to play the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. The Steelers would come out on top, of course, and go on the win the Superbowl. The Bengals lost franchise Quarterback Carson Palmer early on with an arm injury and never recovered. The Browns failed to capitalize on their 10 win season in 2007. Derek Anderson came back to earth, and Braylon Edwards was plagued by dropped passes. With Cleveland and Cincinnati starting to rebuild, can Pittsburgh become the first team since New England to repeat? Or will Joe Flacco lead the Ravens to a division title this season?
Andre Smith Signs, Where is Michael Crabtree?

Andre Smith Can Buy a Lot of Donuts With That Money
Well, it took quite some time, but Andre Smith is finally at Bengals Camp. This leaves Michael Crabtree as the only 1st round rookie that remains unsigned. Crabtree, picked 10th overall by the 49ers was supposed to have a major impact as a rookie this season. With the Pre-Season almost over, it doesn’t appear that Crabtree will be on the field any time soon. The 49ers have, supposedly, offered Crabtree a contract that is on par with what the 10th pick in the draft should make, but Crabtree is still holding out for more money. There have even been rumors that Crabtree may sit out the entire season if he and the 49ers cannot get a deal done. Meanwhile, Crabtree is losing valuable practice and conditioning hours…not to mention millions of dollars. What the hell is Crabtree thinking?
