Campell Is On His Way To A Decent Year
Coming into the season, I knew JaMarcus Russell would struggle. Even when he was drafted, I expected little out of Russell. I have outlined my thoughts about Russell in my Players At A Crossroads article about him. The Raiders, however, seemed to think Russell would be solid this season. After releasing Jeff Garcia, the Raiders had no one to play quarterback if/when Russell struggled. This, of course, is a problem the Raiders are realizing right now. Russell has been so bad this season, that he was benched for Bruce Gradkowski last week. Going forward, it looks like Russell will get another chance to shine as the Raiders starting quarterback. While the Redskins have been nearly as bad as the Raiders this season, Jason Campbell doesn’t seem to be struggling as much as you might expect. As a matter of fact, Campbell is well on his way to some career highs this season…if he can keep his job.

Adrian Peterson Didn't Even Play And He Felt Embarassed For The Bears Yesterday
The Bears get trounced, Peyton Manning stay perfect, and the Vernon Davis transformation is complete! That’s right friends, Week 7 is nearly complete. While the Raiders reverted to form, the Cowboys and Cardinals got back in the playoff races. Meanwhile, quarterback changes are the latest craze in the NFL. Who will survive and who will be holding the clipboard next weekend? Let’s review the biggest stories of Week 7.
Broncos 6-0, How Did This Happen?
Posted by Chris Cwik in Football on October 21, 2009

You Wont Be Seeing Many Of These Anymore
After listening to the off-season predictions, the Denver Broncos had a chance to be one of the worst teams in the NFL. Franchise quarterback, Jay Cutler, had a run-in with Josh McDaniels and forced a trade to the Chicago Bears. Following suit, Brandon Marshall sulked through training camp and was a long shot to make an impact this season. Stefan Fatsis, who chronicled his time as a Broncos kicker in A Few Seconds Of Panic, was, and still is, pretty critical of McDaniels. It didn’t get any easier for McDaniels, who was questioned for acquiring Kyle Orton, and trading Jay Cutler. Many Broncos fan sites were calling for McDaniels head before the season even began. Six weeks into the NFL season, and McDaniels looks like a genius, causing some sites to change their opinions. Believe it or not, the Broncos are 6-0! How do they keep exceeding expectations?

What Is This, Bizarro World?
Six weeks are now in the books, and there are still many questions surrounding the NFL. While there are still four undefeated teams in the NFL, there are a number of teams that have turned in uneven performances thus far. One coach has already lost his play-calling duties, and one of the longest tenured coaches might be on the block. Let’s recap, shall we?

We All Worship At The Altar Of Gus Johnson
Week 5 is in the books and four teams stand at 5-0, while four other teams stand 0-5. So much for parity. The Mannings continued their dominance, while Donovan McNabb did not appear to be rusty in his comeback. Both the AFC North and the NFC West got a bit more intriguing as well. Here is your round up of the top stories in week 5, in case you missed it.

I Thought Russell Would Be Bad, But Historically Inept...Yikes!
Yes, I’m aware that Monty already posted our update for this week. However, I found an article on Football Outsiders concerning JaMarcus Russell’s poor completion percentage this season that I had to link to. I do not mean to rub salt in Monty’s wounds with this. (For what it’s worth, he picked the Detroit Tigers to win the AL Central before the season and I called him an idiot. While they didn’t technically win, he would have destroyed me in a Tigers/Indians bet. Yes…I liked the Indians. I will now crawl into my baseball hole.) Anyway, click on this link and scroll to the bottom third of the page. The headline for the story is An Incomplete Failure. Seriously, Russell is only completing 39.8% of his passes. That is a staggeringly low number.

Does Favre Look Good In Purple?
Just in case you haven’t heard about it anywhere, there is a somewhat significant Monday Night Football game tonight. Yes, Brett Favre returns in all his glory to play his former team for the first time in his career. You won’t find anything else on ESPN today, it’s all about Favre. Hey, he hijacked your sports news for 2-3 off-seasons, what’s one more day? While Favre isn’t admitting that this is a shot at revenge, any intelligent fan knows that he’s lying through his teeth. Being that we are based mostly out of Milwaukee, it would be a disservice for FP2FP to gloss over such an important event. What better way to talk about the game than The Forum? Although we only asked for a paragraph, our resident Packers fan, Kevin Tracy, got a little excited and we ended up with two. So, with Brett Favre facing his former team for the first time in his career, what can we expect to see tonight?
Breaking Down Matthew Stafford: Weeks 2-3

What Does Matt Ryan Have In Common With Matthew Stafford?
After yesterday’s article ran a bit longer than I had anticipated, I decided to break up the Matthew Stafford article into two pieces. The first focused on Stafford’s scouting reports, weaknesses, and week 1 performance against the Saints. This piece will focus on Stafford’s week 2 and week 3 performances. There is very little footage available for week 2, so I will mainly be focused on week 3. There are, however, some interesting things we can take away from Stafford’s week 2 performance. Matthew Stafford may have brought the Lions their first win in over a season in week 3, but has Stafford improved enough since week 1 to lead a few more Lions victories?

There Is No Buzz Surrounding Stafford Right Now
All around the NFL there has been talk about the incredible rise of the New York Jets. Led by a strong defense, and the surprising play of Mark Sanchez, the Jets have raced out of the gate to a 3-0 record. This had lead a number of analysts to anoint Sanchez as the next Matt Ryan or Ben Roethlisberger. Deadspin had fun pointing out the fact that everyone loves Sanchez’s “poise,” but Football Outsiders own Doug Farrar looked at the game tapes and dissected Sanchez’s play. The early results for Sanchez are promising. Farrar notes that Sanchez has good footwork, excellent intangibles, and a knack for the play-fake. However, very few analysts are focusing on number one overall pick, Matthew Stafford. Obviously, Stafford has not gotten off to a great start this season. However, he is working with a much less talented team around him. So, what is going wrong for Matthew Stafford?
Players At A Crossroads: Cedric Benson

Benson Entered 2009 With His NFL Career On The Line
The contrast between the beginning and the end of Cedric Benson’s 2008 season is incredibly interesting. Leading into 2008, Benson was arrested for a BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) which may have caused the Chicago Bears to select Matt Forte in the second round of the NFL draft. Benson, never the most popular player in the Bears locker room, was now fighting for his starting position at running back. Unfortunately for Benson, he was arrested and charged with a DUI in a separate incident just a few weeks later. On June 9th, before the season even started, the Bears released Benson. On September 30th, Benson signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. After initially beginning on the bench, Benson played his way into the Bengals’ line up and was a pleasant surprise for Cincinnati. In the final three games of the season, all wins for the Bengals, Benson gained over 100 total yards in each game. After the Bengals failed to sign Derrick Ward in the off-season, Benson was re-signed as the starting running back for the Cincinnati Bengals. Entering a critical season, can Benson prove that he can succeed at the NFL level?
