Hot…and…Not
We are nearly two weeks through the baseball season and some fantasy owners, myself included, are starting to worry about some hitters. Two weeks is a small sample size, but if you have a player that doesn’t have a long MLB track record, Julio Borbon, you can have some cause for concern.
MLB Hottest Hitters
Owned in less than 50% of ESPN Leagues*
Jose Guillen: .361 BA, 5 HR, 9 RBI…good for 4th best among OF’s and is the 7th best hitter so far
Scott Podsednik: .457 BA, 4 Runs, 6 SB…6th in OF’s and 11th among hitters
Alex Gonzalez: .349 BA, 4 HR, 8 Runs, 7 RBI…#1 among SS
*Through April 16th
For the hot hitters, each has long track record with less than exception numbers, so I can’t expect any of these amazing numbers to sustain.
MLB Coldest Hitters
Owned in at least 90% of ESPN Leagues*
Carlos Lee: .103 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 Runs and 1 BB to 10 K. Lee has been the worst hitter in fantasy baseball this season, the next worst is Lyle Overbay who is owned in less than 1% of ESPN leagues
Hunter Pence: .108 BA, 1 HR, 0 SB, 0 BB, 8 K. Pence is the only player besides Lee who is owned in more than 6% of leagues that is in the top 8 of worst hitters
Jay Bruce: .151 BA, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 Run. 16th worst hitter this year, and ranks 135th among OF’s, but doing better than Chris Coghlan and Julio Borbon.
*Through April 16th
Holliday To Blame For Cards Loss?

Who is responsible for the Cardinals loss in Game 2?
With two outs in the bottom of 9th, Dodgers 1B James Loney hit a liner at Cardinals LF Matt Holliday. Holliday lost the ball in the lights and it dropped in for a two base error. You can’t catch what you can’t see. If Holliday catches the ball, the game is over. According to Fangraphs.com, after the Holliday error, the Cardinals still had an 87% chance of winning that game, leading 2-1 with a runner on 2nd and two outs.
Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin got Manny Ramirez to fly out to center for the second out of the 9th. It appeared the Cardinals were heading to St. Louis for games 3 and 4 with a 1-1 series split. Then Loney reached on the Holliday error. Franklin couldn’t work around this mistake. The next four Dodger hitters went: walk, single, walk, single, including a game-tying hit by former-Cardinal Ronnie Belliard.
MLB Playoff Analysis: Los Angeles Dodgers

Which Dodgers team will we see in the playoffs? The first half team, second half team or a whole new team?
How many of you would have guessed that the Dodgers have the best run differential in baseball? I can’t imagine too many. As of today, the Dodgers lead MLB with a +163 run differential, 8 runs better than the 102-win New York Yankees. LA also leads the league in fewest runs allowed at 604. Yet, the Dodgers seem to be the trendy pick to get knocked out of the playoffs early.
2009 Season Recap: Looking back on the Dodgers 2009 season, a couple things stood out. First, they got out to a huge lead in the NL West and didn’t look back for a while. They finished the first half of the season at 56-32 despite missing Manny Ramirez from the beginning of May until July. Starters Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley were unhittable.
The second half was more of cruise control than anything else for the Dodgers. As of today, they are 2 games over .500 in the 2nd half. Chad Billingsley has struggled and LA has acquired Jon Garland and George Sherrill to boost their bullpen for the playoffs. LA making the playoffs has been a forgone conclusion since the end of May, but I don’t think anyone thought they would take this long to clinch the NL West. The Rockies are nipping at LA’s heels, and are within 1 game to tie the division lead. LA has clinched a spot, but have two more games with the Rockies to determine the NL West winner.
