Players At A Crossroads: Cadillac Williams

Cadillac Returns From Multiple Injuries This Season
In 2004, Cadillac Williams helped lead the Auburn Tigers to a perfect 13-0 record and a number 2 ranking in the nation. Even in a timeshare with standout running back Ronnie Brown, Cadillac ran for over 1100 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Cadillac ended his collegiate career as the all time leader in touchdowns and rushing attempts at Auburn, and finished with the second most rushing yards in school history. Cadillac impressed former Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden at the Senior Bowl, and was picked number 5 overall by the Buccaneers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Cadillac looked like the best back in what was thought to be a strong bunch, winning the Rookie of the Year award in his first year. Unfortunately, injuries have kept Cadillac from seeing the field. Williams, however, had a strong pre-season and beat out free agent import Derrick Ward to be the starting running back for the Bucs this season. Can the former ROY hold up and deliver entering a make or break season?
NFL Is A Copycat League…Here’s Another Example

Turk Schonert fired today as offensive coordinator in Buffalo
Well you can go down several avenues to prove that one. You can look at the teams switching from the 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense, or teams implementing the Wildcat offense, and so on.
How bout this growing trend? Firing offensive coordinators before the season has begun! The Bills fired offensive coordinator Turk Schonert today, after Kansas City’s Chan Gailey was fired on Monday and Tampa Bay’s Jeff Jagodzinski was let go on Thursday. I talked to some longtime NFL followers, did some research and struggled to find any precedent for these types of firings. (If you find some, send it to me and I will be quite thankful)
New Season In Tampa, New QB, Same Result
Byron Leftwich is going to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting QB after a heated (not) training camp. He joins the list of Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Bruce Gradkowski, Tim Rattay and Chris Cwik’s BFF Chris Simms as QBs to start in Tampa the last four years. Leftwich is playing for his fourth team in four years and is an equivalent to a replacement level player in the NFL, if not slightly worse. This isn’t a surprising move by any means, but it falls right in line with the Buccaneers as an organization.
Pre-Season QB Update

Sanchez Will Have his Chance Tonight
The NFL pre-season has reached the halfway point. After tonight, every team in the NFL will have played two pre-season games. Tonight’s game, however, is an important one for rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez will get his first start of the pre-season against one of the toughest defenses in the NFL. A good showing by Sanchez could mean that he’s the guy for the New York Jets this season. A poor start, and the QB competition continues. With tonight being an important night for the young signal caller, let’s take a look at some of the other QB battles in the NFL.
