Posted by Chris Cwik in Football on March 5, 2010
Wow, what a day to be a fan of the Chicago Bears! Just hours after the free-agency period began, the Bears have already made some huge moves. It’s fair to say that the day has gotten progressively better with each signing. With the Julius Peppers’ signing imminent, let’s take a look at how these moves will effect the Bears next season.

Did anyone like the halftime show this year?
Posted by Chris Cwik in Football, Miscellaneous on February 9, 2010
Let’s face it, ever since the Janet Jackon/Justin Timberlake scandal in 2004, the Super Bowl halftime shows have been pretty boring. Since 2004, the NFL has picked aging artists that are still living off their past accomplishments. I don’t mean to take anything away from Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, or the Stones; but this isn’t the 1970s (and in some cases, earlier). Well, last Sunday’s performance by The Who definitely took the cake for lame, sucky halftime show. Like many of the recent Super Bowl halftime vocalists, Roger Daltrey’s pipes aren’t what they used to be. Pete Townshend, on the other hand, looked as if he was incapable of moving on stage. Even though the show was, once again, a big yawn, expect more of the same from the NFL next year. In order to prepare you for disappointment, let’s place the odds on some potential Super Bowl XLV performers.
Monty’s Super Bowl 44 Thoughts
Before the game started here is what I thought would happen…
-The game would cover the 57 points and possibly be the highest scoring Super Bowl ever
-Colts would win, but the won’t cover the five points
-Brees and Manning would have huge games
-It would be a close game with few punts
-Game would come down to final drive/big turnover
Recap: I wasn’t too hot on my predictions, seeing as that it was a lower scoring game than anticipated and the Saints won by double digits. O well, I wasn’t right, but what else is new
During the game here were my thoughts
Colts:
-The Colts 10-0 first quarter lead didn’t concern me about a blow out, due to Brees and Saints O
Lane Kiffin to USC: Do college coaches have any integrity?
Posted by Chris Cwik in College Football on January 13, 2010
I can’t believe I am saying this, but was Al Davis right all along? When Davis fired Kiffin after only a year and a half it just confirmed the obvious; the Oakland Raiders were still one of the worst run franchises in professional sports. Many critics felt that Davis rushed to a decision after only giving Kiffin twenty games to prove himself. Only a year and a half later, it looks as if Davis was right all along. Of course, no one in Southern California wants to hear about any of that. Honestly though, how does Lane Kiffin keep getting work?

Your 2009 Heisman Winner Is…Mark Ingram

Alabama's First Ever Heisman Winner...RB Mark Ingram
Mark Ingram is the third consecutive sophomore to win the award, and he becomes Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy winner in the closest Heisman race ever. Was it close because there were a handful of great resumes like last year’s race between Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow? The answer is a resounding no. There wasn’t a really dominant player this season, in terms of a Heisman winner. There were four good resumes, but each had flaws.
Stanford’s Toby Gerhart had a bunch of TD’s and rushing yards, but played a relatively weak schedule with few strong defenses.
Texas’ Colt McCoy completed 70% of his passes and threw for over 3,500 yards, but threw 12 interceptions on the season, he struggled vs Oklahoma, and vs. Nebraska in the Big-12 championship game.
Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh had an outstanding season, but at the defensive tackle position, he had a tough battle to fight. Alex Karras’s 1957 season at Iowa earned him 2nd in the voting, the highest position by a DT ever. The only DT to finish in the top 5 in the past 20 years was Steve Emtman, when he finished 4th in 1991.
Alabama’s Mark Ingram had a strong year but finished behind Dion Lewis of Pitt and Gerhart in rushing yards and trailed Gerhart by 11 TD.
Fantasy League Stereotypes

Yup...This About Sums It Up
Earlier this year, FX launched the first show centered around fantasy football, and the nerdiness that accompanies being a team owner in a fantasy football league. The League is a improv-comedy series along the lines of Curb Your Enthusiasm (Jeff Schaffer serves as a writer on both shows). The show follows the friendships of a group of men who are all united by their fantasy football league. While many of the topics on the show don’t always focus on their actual league, it’s unbelievable how well the show portrays the stereotypical owners in every fantasy league. Every league has some sort of variations of these personalities…sometimes for the better…sometimes for the worst.
